Informations & sum up of the stage
CARS
Dominique Housieaux (Fra/Buggy Schlesser) : “Never seen such dunes, we managed excellent navigation. Obviously an advantage to not leave first today Tomorrow will be our turn though. It’s getting tigh, especially the last two stages”.
Eric Vigouroux (Fra/Trophy Truck Chevrolet) : “We loved it, passing first over the line I really thought we’d nailed it, nope. We went slightly wrong a one point, and speed was missing a bit…everything is still on the table for victory”
Krzysztof Holowczyc (Pol/Nissan Pickup) : “Apart from a flat tyre at the beginning, there were no mistakes. Even at full speed the buggies would fly by, it was frustrating when you are doing your best and loose all the benefit in pure speed”
BIKES
Albert Hintenaus (SA/KTM 690) : “I like sand, and get the opportunity to practise back home in Cape Town. I knew, leaving thirteenth today, that with goods tracks in front of me I would do well. Tomorrow will be another story as I have never opened the race before. When the fastest overtake me I’ll be sure to follow them, just to see how they reach such speeds and navigate at the same time.”
Olivier Pain (Fra/Yamaha 450) : “ We had it all today, speed and technique. Just before CP 2, there were a few of us searching for the right way, we lost at least a quarter of an hour. Thierry (Bethys) found the tracks and we were off. I feel bad for Michel (Marchini) he deserved to stay up front. It’s up to me now to prove Yahama are the best bikes on this Rally”.
Mathieu Serradori (Fra/BETA) :“ it was an unforgettable experience. To open the way in front all these pros’. Incredible! I was alone for at least 60 to 70 kms. Then Alex Anton caught up and we teamed up to CP1. It’s a first for BETA to finish number one of an African special. I lost two clips on my exhaust pipes and luckily Olivier (Pain) helped me out on the last leg of the special. Without him I would not have finished the special”.
